This list will include all known celebrity South Asian and Black couples, past and present, even minor celebrities, and will include both full and partial South Asian / Black couples. South Asia includes all of the countries in the Indian subcontinent – India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Maldives. In the US, for Asian Man, Black Woman (AMBW) marriages, there are more South Asian and Black married couples than any other Asian and Black marriage combination. The 2010 census showed that over 30% of all AMBW marriages were with Indians and other South Asians. Based on the celebrity couples shown here, the South Asian / Black breakup rate is ~23% which is much lower than the US divorce rate of ~60%, but much higher than the divorce rate in India which is only about 1%. The South Asian / Black breakup rates are one of the lowest among all Asian / Black couples, (along with Japanese / Black). Please let us know of other South Asian / Black celebrity couples that should be on this list or known changes to the couples below and we will update the list.

  1. I’m very interested in getting your take on East Indian women/Black men. I understand that the numbers may not be high because of arranged marriages and cultural exclusivity when it comes East Indian women preferences for dating/marriage. However, I am sure there are those who will be open to men outside of their culture. Especially black men. Are there any particular online dating websites where black men can find East Indian women? Or can East Indian women be found on more general dating sites?

    • Steven,
Blindian couples appear to be on the rise recently, but honestly, we do not have a lot of experience with Blindian couples, and as much as we would like to say that Blindian couples are just like Blasian couples, we see more and more evidence that the two communities are somewhat different.

Here is what we do know:
      – Research shows that East Indian and Desi women are far less likely than East Asian and Southeast Asian women to date outside their ethnic group. Based on 2011 data, only 7% of East Indian women married non-East Indian men. Asian women on the whole marry non-Asian men 35% of the time. So the pool of East Indian women who will consider non-East Indian men for marriage is fairly small.
      – From the same 2011 data, only 0.5% of East Indian women married Black men, whereas 1.7% of Asian women married Black men. So again, East Indian women just historically have not viewed Black men as marriage partners for many different reasons of course.
      – For East Indian women who are married to Black men, they are highly selective about the Black men they marry. East Indian and Desi women marry Black men with far higher education and income than Asian women in general. Desi women were found to have married Black men where 51% had Bachelor degrees, 30% had advanced degrees, 22% made more than $100K and 11% made more than $150K. Compare that to Asian women who married Black men where 34% had Bachelor degrees, 15% had advanced degrees, 13% made more than $100K, and 5% made more than $150K. Finally, compare that to the US Black male population in general where 14% have Bachelor degrees, 5% have advanced degrees, 3% make more than $100K, and 1% make more than $150K. The numbers are pretty clear – East Indian women who marry Black men are very choosey about who they marry with a heavy preference for Black men with advanced degrees and fairly high incomes.
      – So if you look at all of the above and you are still interested in dating or marrying East Indian or Desi women despite the challenges, we think there are probably only two reasonable ways to find a suitable Desi woman – A) Network within the Desi community or B) work with a Desi matchmaker. Yes, there are a plethora of dating sites and apps focused on the Desi community, but given the needle in a haystack type search we believe you would be on, they would not be our first choice.
      – In terms of networking, the East Indian community is typically highly networked and collegial, so making some good friends with East Indian men would be a good start if you have not already done so. Once you have some great East Indian male friends, they will help give you the straight scoop on your chances of meeting East Indian women, and if they believe in you, they will help make introductions for you that will likely go further than anything else you can find on your own. By being married to an East Indian woman, you eventually will be a part of the East Indian community, so if you have not already started to integrate with that community, now is the time to do so if you are truly serious about finding love with an East Indian woman. Also, US communities with the most East Indians are New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, San Jose, San Fran / Oakland, Dallas, Houston, and Philly.
      – Regarding a Desi matchmaker, while we do not have personal experience here, we hear good things about DesiJodi, but we would encourage you to do your own research here.
      – Finally regarding dating sites for Indian singles, we ran across this link which seems reasonable, but again we would encourage you to do your own research.
      Good luck!

    • One more thought on Black men meeting East Indians. In the AMBW community, we see a large segment of East Indian Caribbean men who are much more likely to date and marry Black women due to their familiarity of living near Blacks in the Caribbean. The same is true for East Indian Caribbean women – Indo-Trinidadians, Indo-Guyanese, Indo-Surinamese, and Indo-Jamaicans – who are much more likely to date and marry Black men than their native and American East Indian sisters. You will find them in large numbers in the US in New York city, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando, Newark, and Atlanta.
