Welcome to what we hope will become the first installment of a regular review and ranking of the top Asian and Black couple websites! For ranking purposes, we break the Asian and Black couple websites into 6 categories:

  • Online Groups
  • Meet Up Groups
  • YouTube Channels
  • Instagram Sites
  • Facebook Pages
  • Blogs

Online interest in Asian and Black couples is growing rapidly, and many from the Blasian couple community have started various Asian and Black couple websites to educate, inform, assist, entertain, and help bring new Blasian couples together. Mainstream media outlets tend to either ignore, under report, or misrepresent Blasian couples, so these Asian and Black couple websites and social media sites have become very important resources to help fill the information void relative to Blasian couples. In this post, we will take a look at which of these websites are gaining the most traction in terms of membership, views, and popularity. Presuming our schedule cooperates, we will look to periodically update these rankings over time, ideally once a quarter.

In order to be eligible for these rankings, the website has to be either primarily or partially devoted to Asian and Black couples or relationships – either BMAW or AMBW. The website can discuss other topics such as lifestyle, fashion, general race relations, etc., but there needs to be a recurring part of the site that focuses on Asian and Black couples or relationships. We exclude any websites or groups that have a heavy sex related theme, and we also exclude websites which have not had meaningful activity in the last 12 months, even if they used to be really popular before the most recent 12 months. Websites come and go all the time.  Obviously, if we missed any websites that you believe belong in these rankings, please bring them to our attention for review.

Finally, in the rankings, websites that primarily focus on AMBW couples will be shown in this green color. Websites that focus on BMAW couples or general Blasian couple topics will be shown in the standard black color. However keep in mind that AMBW oriented websites will occasionally cover BMAW topics and likewise, many BMAW oriented websites will occasionally cover AMBW topics. Now let’s get to the rankings!

Top 8 Asian and Black Couple Websites – Meet Up Groups

For meet up groups, there are currently only 8 Asian and Black couple groups and they are all AMBW oriented groups. Also among these 8 AMBW meet up groups, there are two groups in SoCal and two groups in Chicago, so really only six regions are represented by these groups. While meet up group member numbers are generally smaller than the online group member numbers, keep in mind that most of the meet up groups are looking to maximize on the quality of their members, rather than the number of members, so some meet up groups purposely restrict their membership in order to maintain high quality events and decent male to female ratios.  No BMAW meet up groups exist at this time.

The LaVigne Life is a clear stand out in the YouTube category with over 10 times as many subscribers as the #2 Asian and Black Couple YouTube channel. Jerry LaVigne, Afro Creole, and Dee Hutchinson, Filipino, Chinese, and White, have been dating since 2012 and they have 2 kids with a third one on the way currently. They have made daily vlogs of their life since June, 2013 and in the 2.5 years since that time, they have amassed nearly 300,000 subscribers and nearly 58 million views which is pretty impressive.  Jerry and Dee really do not dwell on their interracial status much, they just live their life which is cool. After the LaVigne Life, Lily Lee’s Blasian Family Channel, Vmarie’s blended fashion / lifestyle channel, and Maze + Lee all have over 20,000 subscribers. Building a successful YT channel can be a long road and all three of these channels have been active for 6 to 7 years now. Lovely Mimi is off to a fast start with over 7,000 subscribers in 4 months leveraging her huge Instagram following, plus she is just downright funny. Also, the sometimes controversial Randy Flagg at Loser Laowai in China has pumped out nearly 600 videos in 11 months to gain about 4,300 subs and grab the #10 spot on the list.

The top Asian and Black couple Instagramer by far is Mimi AKA @lovely.mimi_, Vietnamese, along with her husband, Remy, African American, who makes frequent appearances in her pictures and videos. Mimi is hella funny with a feisty personality, and with the right team and the right project, we think she has the potential to be a big star. The #2 Instagramer, blasian.couples has some really great pictures of Blasian couples which can provide just the right inspiration when you need to see some Blasian couple happiness. At #3, Vmarie once again shows us how to be popular in almost every social media outlet she touches. Of all the website categories, I suspect that this Instagram top 10 list will change the most by the time of our next quarterly update.

This category only considers Facebook pages – fan pages, community pages, information pages and other pages, not Facebook groups which are included in the online groups category above. FB pages only accumulate likes and do not have group members. Ranier Maningding, Filipino, the creator of Love Live of an Asian Guy, is the king of this category. Ranier has been dating his girlfriend, Livi, Black and White, since 2011, and they are going strong and planning a future together. These days Ranier covers a lot more than just AMBW topics – everything from race relations, to politics, to all types of Asian Man, Non-Asian Woman topics. We think he is one of the most intelligent and deepest guys on the web, so his #1 ranking here is not a surprise. In the #2 spot, Dom & Hyo use their comic artist skills to create top notch informative comics and infographics to discuss Korean culture and their relationship. And at #3, Rhea Alexander, who other AMBWers refer to as one of the thought leaders in the AMBW world, produces the very informative and popular AMBW for Life page.

There are about 1 billion websites globally right now, so any global ranking less than 10 million is actually pretty good and being ranked in the top 1 million sites is really excellent. Jennifer Gabriel produces the #1 Asian and Black Couple blog right now called Western Girl Eastern Boy (WGEB) and it’s ranked in the top 300,000 websites globally which is superb. These days, Jennifer spends a lot of time discussing her move to Korea (for the 2nd time) and Korean culture, but she has a big section on dating and relationships in Korea based on her experience from her first move to Korea. WGEB is really well done and very deserving of the number one spot. In the #2 and #3 spots, Dom & Hyo, and S-Morishita Studio both respectively use their craft of comics to tell Blasian couple stories in a unique way which helps drive their high global rankings. Ranier with his excellent Love Life of An Asian Guy lands #4 on this list, and somehow a little blog called ABC managed to sneak into the #5 spot 🙂

Kudos to all of the websites on all of the rankings above. If you know of any websites that should be on these lists, please drop us a line so we can update the listings over time. See the following link for a broader list of all of the active Asian and Black Couple Websites and Resources that we are aware of today. Educating the world about Asian and Black couples and creating safe spaces for Blasian couples to have intelligent and meaningful dialogue, is a labor of love for many I’m sure. However, I believe it is necessary work that lessens barriers and updates old and tired stereotypes which enables all of us to live in a little friendlier and more receptive world. Not to mention the fact that America’s transition to minority majority over the next generation or two will necessitate that Asians and Blacks figure out how to live well with each other sooner rather than later.

A couple of overall observations. First, given the amount of green in the rankings above, it’s clear that AMBW related sites generally outnumber and outclass BMAW sites. Given that the US census counts about 6.4 times as many BMAW households as compared to AMBW households, the question of why AMBW sites generally outnumber BMAW sites is one that we plan to look at further in an upcoming article. There is room for both AMBW and BMAW sites to succeed, so this observation is more a curiosity rather than a contest.

See our prior post, Interracial Marriage – Asians and Blacks for more statistics.

Finally, as we mentioned at the outset of this post, the Asian and Black couple space is a fast growing and dynamic space. While we are certain that Asian and Black couples and Blasians are still a small minority in the US today, we already see the evidence that Asian and Black couples of today are not nearly as rare as they were say even just 10 years ago. Think about what that might mean for Blasian couples over just the next 10 years. How many of us in the Blasian couple space can point to several other Blasian couples that we know personally? Sure, maybe some are still the only ones in their circle, but that’s changing slowly but surely for many Blasian couples where they are no longer the only ones. Maybe not now, but probably soon, we will have to stop thinking about Blasian couples and Blasian kids as some rare breed and start figuring out how we capitalize on the collective Asian and Black couple community instead of spending time on the “novelty” of being in an Asian and Black couple relationship.

This was the inaugural ranking. See all Asian and Black Couple Website Rankings here!

Happy holidays to everyone!
